our office clock fell, causing the minutes- and second pointer to come off and they were just laying in the transparent cover. witnessing the random patterns that occurred while the hour pointer still rotated, the concept for the continue time was born.

on this continue time clock, two out of the three pointers rotate around another pointer, instead of the central point on the clock face, as with traditional clocks. the resulting kinetic artwork, and fully functional clock, is continuously changing its shape during a full rotation of twelve hours.

jaime hayón spanish artist-designer.

jaime hayon was born in madrid in 1974. as a teenager, he submerged himself in skateboard culture and graffiti art, the foundation of the detailed, bold-yet-whimsical imagery so imminent in his work today. after studying industrial design in madrid and paris he joined fabrica in 1997, the benetton-funded design and communication academy, working closely with the legendary image-maker and agitator oliverio toscani. in a short time he was promoted from student to head of their design department, where he oversaw projects ranging from shop, restaurant and exhibition conception and design to graphics. eight years later, jaime broke out on his own, first with collections of designer toys, ceramics and furniture, followed by interior design and installation. his singular vision was first fully exposed in ‘mediterranean bigital baroque’ at london’s david gill gallery, an exciting mise en scène, largely executed in ceramic, followed by ‘mon cirque’, which traveled to frankfurt, barcelona, paris and kuala lumpur. these collections put jaime at the forefront a new wave of creators that blurred the lines between art, decoration and design and a renaissance in finely-crafted, intricate objects within the context of contemporary design culture.

what are you guys working on for ss10? custom hardware has really become a focal point of our brand, it is one of the few things that from a material standpoint can ultimately make you unique. for ss10 we created a line of custom metal bands that adorn most of the bags. the bands vary in sizes and design. some have laser engraving script of lyrics and thoughts, others are in the shape of chain, etc.. the result has what we call gypsy - lux .

ss10 collection is the reaction to the action of our fw09 collection. fw09 was an intense focused, forward thinking on-taking. ss10, we looked back, we felt back on each other’s personal nostalgia for inspiration, a time when living was just about being in the moment, traveling was not about reaching a destination…. this is reflected in the finishing of the bags such as our hand tied shoulder straps, raw cut edges and in the individual designs of our custom metal bands; including lyrics and journal thoughts extracted from the past....

tanya aguiñiga (b.1978) is a los angeles based furniture designer/maker raised in tijuana, mexico. tanya’s work is informed by border experiences: the interconnectedness of societies, the beauty in struggle and the celebration of culture. she uses furniture as a way to translate emotions into a three dimensional objects and tell stories trough color and touch. her work encourages users to reconsider the objects they use on a daily basis by creating work that explores an objects’ unseen aspect, such as half chairs that rely on the wall to function and whose image is only complete as its shadow is cast upon the wall.

she has also dedicated much of her time to using art as a vehicle for community empowerment. she has been a member of border art workshop baw/taf, a bi-national artist collaborative for ten years. through baw/taf she helped to build and run a community center in an impoverished area of tijuana built on trash from the united states. for the 6 years she worked there, she focused on bringing national and international attention to the community’s plight through arts only based programs.

in the unites states, she worked on diversifying audiences through arts education at the san diego museum of art and at the rhode island school of design museum through outreach programs. she has also done a great deal of work for migrant rights through art installations across mexico and the united states.

tanya is now working on ways to combine furniture design and community activism. her formal education includes a ba in furniture design from san diego state university and an mfa in furniture design from the rhode island school of design. she was recently awarded a prestigious united states artists fellowship and was named a usa target fellow in the field of crafts and traditional arts. her work has been exhibited from mexico city to milan and included in major international publications such as wallpaper magazine and “pure design, objects of desire” published by monsa editions in spain.

i intend for my drawings to sit between comic tragedy and cautionary tale. although there are many sources that inform my work--victorian children’s books, buddhist philosophy, movies, satirical writers such as voltaire--it is living in contemporary america that informs my work most.

my drawings reflect current political, economic and social events in a non-direct way—so that the quiet poignancy in an event is what the viewer experiences rather than the specific details. i feel we are missing compassion, gentleness and humor in american culture. when we barrel ahead, unaware of each other and convinced of our invincibility, we set the stage for disaster, and every disaster, private or public, is bittersweet. current life is horrific and sweetly tender. i use watercolor to render the chaos pretty, and to illustrate the naiveté i witness within our cataleptic culture.

i am interested in how banal, disconnected images from multiple sources can be combined to can create layered meanings, and so most of my source imagery comes from the Internet. i think about how technology is playing a role in the tradition of painting and drawing, and how our easy access to global information via the Internet has changed how we experience the world and how we consume and understand images.

currently, i am working on three new bodies of work in my studio: a series of drawings about america’s relationship with china titled made in china; new experiments using folded paper dioramas to create three dimensional drawings; and animated drawings with minimal movement, which are rear-projected onto paper. images of these new works will be on my website in may.

annina was born in london and moved to san francisco as a baby. her mother dealt in bakelite and costume antique jewellery and took annina with her on buying trips. that's when her obsession with vintage jewellery began, but she was far more interested in the real stuff... diamonds and gold!! she started collecting gold charms at the age of 8 and by the time she was 11 she had already bought and sold her first diamond ring. she returned to the uk age 12 and has lived in north west london ever since. annina loves to trawl antique markets and fairs for jewellery; you'll often find her in portobello market on a saturday morning with eyes peeled for that holy grail of all charms and any victorian treasure she can get her hands on!!

annina vogel makes each item of jewellery completely unique and never to be repeated. an impressive collection of rare antique british gold charms and chains are available to chose from to create your own bespoke piece. annina sources her materials from a wide range of antique markets and vintage jewellery fairs all over the country. gold is a very good investment at the moment, the cost of it just keeps on rising. this means that a lot of unworn antique and victorian jewellery is being scrapped and melted, our history and heritage is being lost with it. annina is making it her mission to save as much antique gold as possible in its original form such brooches, studs, and charms. she then transforms and revives it into something contemporary and fashionable, presenting it in a different way whilst maintaining the integrity of its original character.

clare vivier is a collection of bags, which embody timeless style over trend, quality over hype, and progression over abstraction. clare was a journalist working for french television when she was traveling a lot with her laptop and for lack of anything cute in the marketplace, fabricated her own padded envelope. out of that search for bags with chic utility came clare vivier. the line is based in la, and everything clare doesn't manufacture herself, is produced entirely burbank and proudly wears the moniker "locally made." clare vivier is a socially conscious company, mindful of the local manufacturing community for the jobs it produces and the low carbon footprint the company inhabits. all clare vivier bags carry clare signature style of classic necessity with a nod to timeless french designers. clare also works as in-house bag and packaging designer for local luxury companies such as the viceroy hotels and mannin jewelry.

graduate from central st martin’s (2008) and winner of the ‘coutts new jewellers award’ (2009), jessica de lotz’s jewellery collections are narrative based tributes reflecting on the ‘social lives’ of objects and the history of their owner’s. largely inspired by her father, a self employed military book seller with an ethos of ‘make do and mend,’ jessica believes that all the objects one needs are available already, it’s just a matter of sourcing them. guided by an overriding appreciation of age and history, jessica’s jewellery embodies the concepts of time, concealment and heritage.

jessica’s 2008 degree show collection, that is available at kabiri, is entitled ‘until the day break’ – at an early sunday morning antique market she came across a 1950’s handbag filled with photographs, identity cards, birth certificates, stamps, tickets and other personal documents of a women named daisy hooper. assuming that one of the photographs was that of daisy’s bedroom, she created jewellery that would inhabit and interact with the objects located within the image. a bangle hidden in a picture frame, a ring within one of the light switches, jessica designed her jewellery to not only exist within the objects, but to be protected by them as well. the last place a burglar would look is in your bayonet light bulb or hairbrush. daisy hooper’s handbag had awoken objects from the past which will now become possible “heirlooms of the future.”

artist: jordi canudas

jordi’s projects stand between mass produced objects, one off pieces and performance-installation pieces. The starting point for a project can be an experience, a material, an interesting phenomena or any small detail that grasps jordi’s attention. hi process is a mixture of research, material experimentation and intuition that without having any predefined outcome lets the project navigate to unexpected results.

“action” is the common denominator in all jordi’s pieces. stretchy fabrics, rubber bands, foam, metal springs,… anything that can be reshaped, changed, modified over time or even deformed or destroyed while being used interests him. On this line he is also interested in the melting process of matter, from solid to fluid, from rigidity to softness, from order to chaos.

light is another recurrent element in his work for which he approaches it from its essence, almost as physical material. less lamp demands that the user releases the light by breaking the shade trapping it within, whilst dripping Light, inspired by the constantly changing light of the sunset, gradually smothers the light source in dripping paint.

the brief was to make a lamp with a compact fluorescent bulb for an office environment. the result was a lamp that might warm up some of those cold and harsh offices.

piet is a chimney free indoor stove with a brass reflector, that burns ethanol fuel instead of wood. this gives no smoke or soot and thereby eliminates the need of a chimney. a layer of rockwool fire insulation between the reflector and the outer shell keeps the outside cool. this means that you can always touch the ceramic body of piet without burning your hand and also means that piet can be placed closer to walls or other furniture.

a yoghurt calendar to encourage people to have breakfast.

a seating cushion with built in vibration speakers - ictus enables the hearing impaired to experience sound, and enhances the experience for everyone else - good for tv, gaming, cinemas or music listening.
